Improvements Sought for I-285's Top End
If you live in Atlanta, odds are you've experienced heavy congestion and lengthy trip times on the top end of I-285, the section of road between I-75 and I-85. When I-285 opened nearly 40 years ago, it was designed to serve as a bypass for Atlanta. Now, it functions as a main artery that supports up to 250,000 vehicles each day.
Metro Atlanta continues to experience phenomenal growth, but the transportation infrastructure is struggling to keep pace. What is already a highly congested system will likely get worse as the area continues to expand.
Recognizing that changes must occur on the top end, the Georgia Department of Transportation and Georgia Regional Transportation Authority have joined forces to create revive285 top end -- an innovative approach aimed at developing a comprehensive solution for this vital corridor.
